IOAN Selvedge Denim
The word "selvedge" comes from the phrase "self-edge" — the natural edge of a roll of fabric. Originally
selvedge denim was always hand-loomed,
a practice which is continued in the production of IOAN jeans.
Looms weave fabric with one continuous thread (the weft) that is passed back and forth all the way
down the length of the bolt. As the weft loops back into
the edge of the denim, it creates this "self-edge"
or selvedge. This is desirable because the edge cannot fray like denim made on a projectile loom
separate wefts which leave an open edge that must be stitched.
The rolls of Clean Selvedge Denim are shipped to Los Angeles, USA, to be stitched into IOAN Clean Denim Products: JEANS, JACKETS, BERMUDAS, SKIRTS and our growing line of denim apparel.
